Brentwood Festival of Sport

Handball made it back to Essex in true style recently when players from Great Dane and Olympia generously gave of their time and came along to the Brentwood Centre, putting on demonstration games during the towns’ Festival of Sport.

Handball, along with a dozen other sports, was on show providing an opportunity for spectators and fellow participants alike, to watch different sports and have a go in, ‘come & try’ sessions. Around thirty children came to grips with some basic ball handling exercises before being let lose in what can only be described as, freestyle handball, and great fun was had by all!

One of the interested spectators, seeing the game for the first time, was the Mayor of Brentwood. He was introduced to some of the players and remarked how much he had enjoyed their demonstration and expressed an interest in seeing the game return to the borough.

This handball initiative was the first to be organised by the recently formed Brentwood Handball Development Group, with further plans under way during the summer to encourage local schoolchildren to play the game.
